The card you actually want is never in the shop down the road, and the ones worth ordering online stop arriving in time about ten days before the holiday. This set fixes that problem in twenty minutes: sixteen designs, five print files, and a card in your hand before the shops open.

WHAT YOU GET (instant download, 5 PDF files, 56 pages)

• Rosh Hashanah Cards - US Letter. Eight sheets, two cards per sheet, with trim marks at every corner. Cut along the marks and you have flat cards, 4.25 x 5.5 in, blank on the back for your own handwriting.

• Rosh Hashanah Cards - A4. The same sixteen cards, laid out for A4 paper. A card cut from this file is exactly the same size as one cut from the US Letter file, so both fit the same envelope.

• Quarter-Fold Cards - US Letter. Sixteen sheets, one whole card per sheet. Nothing to cut: fold the page in half twice and you have a folded card with the greeting printed inside and clear space underneath to sign your name.

• Quarter-Fold Cards - A4. The folding version for A4 paper. Folding an A4 sheet in half twice gives an A6 card, 105 x 148 mm - the size a C6 envelope is made for.

THE SIXTEEN DESIGNS

Four styles, so you can pick a card that suits the person rather than sending everyone the same one.

• Classic - warm serif lettering with a drawn illustration: a whole pomegranate, a pomegranate cut open, apples and a honey jar, an apple slice with a honey dipper, a shofar, a round braided challah, a sprig of wheat and grapes and figs, a bee over a blossom.
• Modern minimal - wide letter spacing, a lot of quiet space, a single small drawing: a honey jar, a typographic rule, a new moon.
• Geometric - flat shapes and clean rules: a shofar in a circle, a honeycomb.
• Hebrew lettering - שנה טובה ומתוקה and שנה טובה set large, with the English transliteration and an English greeting underneath, so the card reads for the person who says these words every year and for the person seeing them for the first time.

Every illustration in this set was drawn as vector artwork specifically for these cards. No clip art, no stock images, nothing traced.

THE GREETINGS

Each card carries a headline - Shanah Tovah, Shanah Tovah U'Metukah, or L'Shanah Tovah Tikatevu - and two or three lines of our own writing underneath. They are written for different people: for family, for a teacher, for a friend, for a client or colleague, for a host, for the one who does the cooking, for someone far away, and several that suit anyone. Hebrew greetings are written here in the transliteration most commonly seen on English-language cards (Shanah Tovah, L'Shanah Tovah Tikatevu). You will also see Shana Tova, Shanah Tovah U'Metukah and other spellings elsewhere - all of them are the same greeting.

FINISHED SIZE AND ENVELOPES

Cards from the US Letter file, the A4 file and the US Letter quarter-fold all finish at 4.25 x 5.5 in (108 x 140 mm) - the standard A2 card size. A2 envelopes (4 3/8 x 5 3/4 in) are sold wherever card stock is sold, and a C6 envelope (114 x 162 mm) takes them with room to spare.

The A4 quarter-fold is the one exception, and it is arithmetic rather than a choice: an A4 sheet folded in half twice is A6, 105 x 148 mm (4.13 x 5.85 in), which is exactly the size a C6 envelope is made for. Every file states its own finished size on page one, and the guide has a table.

WHAT YOU NEED

A printer, paper, and scissors or a trimmer for the flat version. Plain paper works. Card stock at 65 to 110 lb cover (176 to 300 gsm) is what makes it feel like a card rather than a printout. The guide walks through it.
